Burgas Free University (Бургаски свободен университет, BFU) is a university in Burgas, Bulgaria. It opened its new academic year in October 2026, marking 35 years of history. BFU offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes as well as qualification courses, organised in four centres: legal sciences, economics and management, informatics and technical sciences, and humanities. Bachelor's programmes include:

  • Law
  • Accounting and Finance, Marketing and Digital Communications, and Business Management and International Economics
  • Software Engineering, Computer Systems and Technologies, and other engineering programmes
  • Psychology, and Pre-school and Primary School Pedagogy

Bachelor's students can enrol full-time or part-time. Admission opens in March and is based on Bulgarian state matriculation exam results or on the university's own entrance exams. BFU takes part in Erasmus+ and in EUNICoast, a European university alliance of island, port and coastal territories, and has recently added Portuguese and Chinese language courses for its students. Student services include scholarships, a career centre and e-learning.

Admission

Admission to bachelor's programmes opens in March. Applicants are admitted on the basis of their Bulgarian state matriculation exam (matura) results or of the university's own entrance exams.
