Caldwell University is a private Catholic university in Caldwell, New Jersey (United States), about 22 miles from New York City. It awards bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. According to the university, about 1,700 undergraduates from more than 45 countries study on its 70-acre campus, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 15:1.

The university lists more than 84 undergraduate programmes, from Biology, Nursing and Business to Supply Chain Management and Environmental Science. Combined programmes lead to a bachelor's and a master's degree in five years. Graduate study includes the MBA, an MS in Accounting, Applied Behavior Analysis, counselling programmes and a doctorate (EdD/PhD) in Educational Leadership. Students can also take part in study abroad and internships.

An Office of International Undergraduate Admissions handles applications from abroad, and an Office of International Student Services supports students on F-1 visas. The university states that all international students receive an academic scholarship. Around 600 students live in three residence halls on campus.

Admission Requirements

Undergraduate applicants from abroad complete the Undergraduate International Student Application and send final secondary school transcripts evaluated by a NACES member agency, proof of English proficiency, a personal essay and one letter of recommendation. SAT/ACT scores are optional. Graduate applicants send foreign university transcripts evaluated course by course by WES or another NACES member, plus proof of English proficiency; some programmes have extra requirements.

Students applying for F-1 status must submit a complete application by 1 June for the fall semester (August) and by 1 December for the spring semester (January).

Language Requirements

  • Undergraduate: TOEFL 70 (or 4 on the new test format), IELTS 6.0, Duolingo 105, PTE Academic 48, Pearson English Express 53, or ELS Level 112; SAT or ACT scores are also accepted
  • Graduate: TOEFL 83, IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 105, PTE Academic 58, Pearson English Express 50, or ELS Level 112

The requirement may be waived for native English speakers.

Fees

Estimated costs for international students, 2026-27 academic year (nine months):

  • Undergraduate tuition: US$41,200 (12-18 credits per semester)
  • Fees: comprehensive fee US$2,440, technology fee US$375, health insurance US$1,170, one-time orientation fee US$300

Financial Aid

International students are not eligible for need-based aid, but new undergraduates receive an academic scholarship based on their high school GPA equivalent, from US$20,000 (GPA under 3.00) to US$27,000 (GPA 3.75 or higher). Other awards:

  • St. Thomas Aquinas Scholarship: US$1,000 to US$3,000 per year for students with strong grades and SAT/ACT scores
  • CU Residential Grant: US$2,000 per year for students living on campus
  • Talent scholarships for art or music

Housing

About 600 students live on campus in three residence halls:

  • Mother Joseph Hall: traditional halls with mostly double rooms, mainly for first- and second-year students
  • Dominican Hall: mostly suites with a living area, for upper-year students
  • Rosary Hall: single or double rooms in a quiet setting, for all years

Meal plans range from unlimited access to one meal a week.
