CESIMEX – Centro Superior Internacional de Música de Extremadura

The Centro Superior Internacional de Música de Extremadura (CESIMEX) is a higher music school in Cáceres, at C/ San Pedro de Alcántara, 9. The Junta de Extremadura granted the administrative authorisation for it to open in the 2024/2025 academic year (Resolution of 1 February 2024, published in the DOE). The school states that teaching is personalised.

Its study plan covers three specialities:

  • Pedagogy (Pedagogía)
  • Composition (Composición)
  • Performance (Interpretación): saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone and tuba, percussion, piano and singing

The Pedagogy plan totals 240 ECTS credits over four years and includes external placements and a final project. CESIMEX also lists a continuing-education master's programme (máster de formación permanente) in music performance and research: 60 ECTS credits, taught online in Spanish, with 50 places.

Admission requires the Bachillerato or an equivalent route (university access exam for over-25s, a higher arts, university or Técnico Superior qualification) and a specific entrance exam that starts with a music analysis test.

Graduate programmes

Master's programme in music performance and research (máster de formación permanente): 60 ECTS credits, taught online in Spanish, 50 places, campus listed as Salamanca. It combines advanced performance training with a grounding in research.

Admission

Applicants need one of the following: the Bachillerato (or its recognised equivalent), the university access exam for people over 25, a higher arts degree, a university degree or a Técnico Superior qualification. All take a specific entrance exam: a music analysis test followed by speciality tasks (for example, a performance of at least three works in different styles of up to 30 minutes plus sight-reading for Performance). The exam fee is €50.
