Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School (CGPS) is an independent school on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York, for students from pre-kindergarten to grade 12. It was founded in 1764 by King's College, now Columbia University, and describes itself as the oldest nonsectarian independent school in the United States. CGPS is a member of independent-school associations including NAIS and NYSAIS and holds NYSAIS accreditation.

The school has three divisions:

• Grammar School (Pre-K to grade 5)
• Middle School (grades 6-8)
• Prep School (grades 9-12)

Signature programmes include chess and STEAM in the Grammar School; band, chorus and orchestra, civics and competitive math in the Middle School; and Advanced Science Research, Shakespeare performances, student travel and a wide choice of electives in the Prep School. Tuition for the 2026-27 academic year ranges from $66,340 (Pre-K) to $69,960 (grade 12) and covers books, lunch, class trips, athletics and all required activities, with no additional fees. Need-based financial assistance is available from kindergarten to grade 12. The Admissions Office is at 36 West 94th Street.

Tuition for the 2026-27 academic year:

• Pre-K: $66,340
• Kindergarten to grade 8: $68,910
• Grades 9 to 11: $69,560
• Grade 12: $69,960

There are no additional fees: tuition covers books, lunch, class trips, athletics and all required activities. A deposit of 20% of tuition is paid when the enrolment contract is signed.

CGPS offers need-based financial assistance to academically qualified students from kindergarten to grade 12; there is no financial assistance for pre-kindergarten. Families apply through the Clarity Financial Assistance Application.
