The Conservatorio Profesional de Música “José Peris Lacasa” is the public music conservatory of Alcañiz, a town in the province of Teruel in Aragon. It grew out of the municipal music school founded in 1982. In 1987 a royal decree created a state elementary conservatory in Alcañiz, which was turned into a professional conservatory in 1999 and named after José Peris Lacasa in 2007. Since November 2010 it has occupied a new building.
The conservatory teaches the elementary and professional levels of music education (enseñanzas elementales and enseñanzas profesionales) of the Aragon education system. Instrument specialities are accordion, clarinet, double bass, bassoon, flute, guitar, oboe, percussion, piano, saxophone, trombone, horn, trumpet, tuba, viola, violin and cello. Alongside instrument lessons, students take music theory (lenguaje musical), choir, harmony, analysis, composition basics and music history, chamber music, orchestra and band, and optional subjects such as music technology.
Places are allocated through entrance tests. The recommended starting age for the first elementary year is 7 to 11 for most instruments, and the professional level requires passing an entrance test. Pupils of the IES Bajo Aragón secondary school in Alcañiz can combine both programmes. Enrolment is done online.

Programmes
Elementary and professional music education (enseñanzas elementales and enseñanzas profesionales), organised in departments:
- Strings: violin, viola, cello, double bass and guitar
- Wind and percussion: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba and percussion
- Piano and accordion, including accompaniment
- Music theory, choir, harmony, analysis, composition basics and music history
- Chamber music, orchestra and band
- Optional subjects such as music technology, ear training and orchestral repertoire
Admission
Admission to the conservatory is through entrance tests, with registration in person or online.
- First year of the elementary level: recommended age 7 to 11 (7 to 14 for double bass, bassoon, trombone and tuba); no test fee
- Professional level: an entrance test must be passed; minimum age 11 for all instruments; a test fee applies
- New students enrol with a copy of their ID card or family book and a passport photo
Scholarships and financial aid
Students can apply for state study grants through the Ministry of Education website (sede.educacion.gob.es); grant holders are exempt from enrolment fees. Large families (familia numerosa) pay 50% of the enrolment fees in the general category and no fees in the special category.
