Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo

The Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo (CSMVigo) is a public higher music conservatory in Vigo, Galicia, run by the Xunta de Galicia. It was founded in 1956 on the city council's initiative, became the first higher conservatory in Galicia in 1984 and has been located near the O Castro park since 1982. Its three buildings house the Martín Códax auditorium, 47 classrooms, an orchestra hall, a computer and electronics lab and practice rooms.

Since 2003 the conservatory has taught only higher-level music studies (Grado Superior) in Composition, Musicology, Music Pedagogy and Performance. Current specialities:

  • Performance, with all orchestral instruments, singing, guitar, piano, early music and traditional instruments

  • Musicology (historical musicology and ethnomusicology)
  • Music Theory Pedagogy (Pedagogía del Lenguaje Musical)
  • Production and Management

It also offers a one-year, 60-ECTS Máster en Enseñanzas Artísticas in Musical Creation, Performance and Research, at MECES level 3 like official university master's degrees. The conservatory has bilateral agreements with about 120 European conservatories and music faculties and an active Erasmus exchange; incoming Erasmus students study free of charge. Galician and Spanish are the main languages, and most teachers speak English. Admission is by a specific entrance test (prueba específica).

Graduate programmes

Máster en Enseñanzas Artísticas in Musical Creation, Performance and Research (Máster en Creación, Interpretación e Investigación Musical): one academic year, 60 ECTS credits, with Creation, Performance and Research itineraries, external placements and a master's thesis. It is a MECES level 3 qualification (level 7 of the European Qualifications Framework), like official university master's degrees.
