Conservatorio Superior de Música "Bonifacio Gil" de Badajoz

Higher education centre in Badajoz, Spain

The Conservatorio Superior de Música «Bonifacio Gil» (CSMB) is a public higher music conservatory in Badajoz, Extremadura, that depends on the Diputación de Badajoz (provincial council). Its origins go back to an experimental music course in 1927, and it became a higher conservatory in 1982. In 2010 the Diputación split the city's conservatory into two independent centres, and since then the CSMB has taught higher studies only.

The conservatory offers two higher-level specialities equivalent to a university bachelor's degree (MECES 2, EQF level 6):

  • Interpretación (Performance), with 16 itineraries for voice and instruments
  • Composición (Composition), with 2 itineraries

Every itinerary lasts four years and totals 240 ECTS credits. Admission requires the Bachillerato or an equivalent qualification (or the university entrance exam for people over 25), plus a specific entrance exam held in June and September. Applicants aged 16 or 17 can be admitted after passing a maturity test. The CSMB obtained its first Erasmus charter in 2008, and its first outgoing Erasmus+ exchange student left in 2020.
