It opened in October 1998 and is named after the Valencian musician Salvador Seguí Pérez, whose work started the project. The conservatory states that it has 70 teachers and more than 400 students.

It also offers three master's degrees in arts education (máster en enseñanzas artísticas): musical performance and applied research, early music performance and musical heritage research, and multimedia composition.

Admission is through a specific entrance exam held in July, with a second call in September for remaining places; applicants also need the Bachillerato or an equivalent qualification, or the university entrance exam for over-25s. An international relations office manages Erasmus mobility for students and staff, and the conservatory holds the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE).
