Eastern Connecticut State University (Eastern) is a public university at 83 Windham Street in Willimantic, Connecticut, and describes itself as Connecticut's public liberal arts university. It is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC), the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). Its next comprehensive accreditation review by NECHE is planned for fall 2030.

Undergraduates choose from more than 40 majors, 65 minors and over 60 concentrations, from Accounting to World Languages and Cultures, including Business Administration, Computer Science, Nursing, Psychology and Elementary Education. Graduate programmes and continuing education are also available. Students can do faculty-mentored research in every major, internships and service work, and can take global field courses or study for a semester in more than 130 countries.

Admission is holistic and test-optional; first-year students apply through the Common App, and most receive a decision within two to three weeks. Almost 90 percent of first-year students and more than 60 percent of all students live on campus. Student life includes more than 90 clubs and organisations and NCAA Division III sports, and 88 percent of full-time undergraduates receive financial aid.

First-year students apply through the Common App. Admission is holistic, with no minimum GPA cutoff: students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher are encouraged to apply, and those below 2.5 are also considered. Eastern is test-optional, so SAT or ACT scores are only sent if they add to the application. The review covers the transcript, course rigour, an essay, recommendations and involvement at school or in the community.

Admission is rolling, and most applicants receive a decision within 2 to 3 weeks of completing their application. All applicants are considered for merit scholarships. The Nursing (BSN) and Honors programmes have additional requirements.

Almost 90 percent of first-year students and more than 60 percent of all students live on campus, in halls run by the Office of Housing and Residential Life.

• First-year halls: Burnap, Burr, Constitution, Crandall, Mead and Winthrop
• Upper-level apartments and suites: High Rise, Low Rise, Laurel, Nutmeg, Noble, Niejadlik and Shafer, most with kitchen facilities
• Fourteen theme housing groups for students with shared interests

Meal plans can be used at Hurley Dining Hall, the Student Center Food Court and the library café. The housing application for 2027-28 opened on 1 October 2026.
