University of Connecticut
University, Graduate school in Storrs, The United States
The University of Connecticut (UConn) is the flagship public research university of the US state of Connecticut and a land and sea grant institution. Its main campus is in Storrs, and it also has campuses and sites at Avery Point, Hartford, Stamford and Waterbury, as well as UConn Health in Farmington and UConn Law.
UConn has 14 schools and colleges and more than 125 undergraduate majors; students can also design their own major. It offers graduate and professional programmes as well as:
- An Honors Program
- Education abroad opportunities
- Undergraduate research funding, such as the Summer Undergraduate Research Fund and UConn IDEA Grants
- A Bachelor of General Studies and non-degree credit study
Undergraduate admission follows separate routes for first-year, transfer and international applicants. Each application is reviewed holistically; standardised test scores and letters of recommendation are optional. According to the university, more than 60% of undergraduates receive gift aid in the form of grants and scholarships, and first-year applicants are automatically considered for most UConn merit scholarships.

Admission
Undergraduate applications (first-year, transfer and international) are reviewed holistically: no single item decides admission. The review considers:
- Rigour: completion of UConn's admission requirements and the challenge of courses taken
- Performance: GPA and grade trends; standardised test scores only if submitted (optional)
- Involvement in clubs, organisations and communities
- Personal qualities and circumstances
Letters of recommendation are optional. Applicants who have enrolled full-time after high school and completed 12 or more credits apply as transfer students.
