The University of Bridgeport (UB) is a university in Bridgeport, Connecticut, founded in 1927. Its main campus covers 56 acres on Long Island Sound and houses 14 schools, colleges and institutes and seven residence halls. Students come from more than 80 countries, and the student-to-faculty ratio is 11:1.

Teaching is organised in three colleges:

  • College of Science and Society: humanities, fine arts, mathematics, natural, behavioural and applied sciences, modern languages
  • College of Engineering, Business, and Education
  • College of Health Sciences, including the School of Nursing and the Fones School of Dental Hygiene (founded in 1949)

UB awards associate, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, as well as certificates and continuing education, with many programmes available online, in hybrid or in accelerated format. Its English Language Institute runs an intensive English as a Second Language programme. Admission is test-optional and there is no application fee; undergraduate and transfer students can apply through the Common App. According to the university, 99% of its students received grant or scholarship aid in fall 2025. Housing is available for undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Nursing (BSN), including an accelerated BSN to become an RN in as few as 15 months
  • Dental Hygiene (associate and bachelor's degrees)
  • Business Administration (associate and bachelor's degrees) and Accounting
  • Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering
  • Biology, Mathematics and Health Sciences
  • Criminal Justice and Human Services
  • General Studies (associate and bachelor's degrees)

Minors in modern languages are offered in Arabic, Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish.

Graduate programmes

  • Master's in Medical Sciences (11 months, fully online with live classes)
  • MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (online)
  • Master's in Artificial Intelligence
  • Master's in Acupuncture; master's and doctoral degrees in Chinese Medicine; Doctor of Chiropractic
  • Master's and doctoral degrees in Computer Science and Engineering
  • Education master's programmes with tuition-paid internships, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership (online with two one-week summer residencies)
  • Online Doctor of Health Science (DHSc)

Admission

UB accepts first-time undergraduate, transfer and graduate applicants. Admission is test-optional and there is no application fee. Applications are submitted through the university's online applicant portal; undergraduate and transfer students can also use the Common App, and Physician Assistant applicants apply through CASPA.

Fees

Undergraduate cost of attendance for the 2026-27 academic year:

  • Tuition and fees: US$37,090
  • Food and housing (resident, standard double room): US$16,840
  • Total estimated cost of attendance including other expenses: US$61,302 for residents, US$51,252 for commuters living with parents, US$56,368 for other commuters

These figures do not include health insurance, lab fees, charges for more than 18 credits or tuition differentials for Nursing and Dental Hygiene. Online science courses carry a US$500 lab kit fee. Fees are subject to change.

Housing

The campus has seven residence halls and four dining facilities. The Office of Housing and Residential Life manages undergraduate and graduate housing, provides information on off-campus housing and employs over 65 student and professional staff. Housing prices are set per semester, with meal plan options. Students living in campus housing, like all international students, must be covered by a health insurance plan.
