Eastern Washington University (EWU) is a public university founded in 1882 in Cheney, in the state of Washington (United States). Its 300-acre campus enrolled 9,922 students in fall 2025, and the academic year is organised in quarters. EWU describes itself as "the Region's Polytechnic": its teaching combines applied, hands-on learning with a liberal arts foundation.
EWU offers more than 90 areas of study at bachelor's and master's level, in person and online, grouped in these areas:
- Arts, humanities and social sciences
- Health science and public health
- Professional programmes
- Science, technology, engineering and mathematics
- Graduate studies and an honors programme
The university has students from more than 40 countries. International applicants apply online (application fee $65), and those who do not meet the English requirement (for example IELTS 6.0) can complete EWU's English Language Institute. International undergraduates who live in campus housing can join the Global Resident Program, which gives a tuition discount for up to four years.
