Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño "Casa de los Picos"
Higher education centre in Segovia, Spain
The Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño "Casa de los Picos" is a school of art and design in Segovia. Besides higher arts education in design, it teaches the arts track of the Bachillerato, higher vocational cycles in illustration, textile art and animation, and an intermediate cycle in mural coatings, including the sgraffito typical of Segovia's walls.
Its higher education programme is product design. Completing it leads to the Título de Grado en Enseñanzas Artísticas Superiores de Diseño, especialidad de Producto, which by law is equivalent in all respects to a university bachelor's degree and gives access to master's-level studies. The degree lasts four academic years (240 ECTS credits, 60 per year) and is taught in the afternoon. The first year is common to all design specialities, and the second semester of the fourth year is devoted to a company work placement and the final degree project. Students learn to design everyday and specialised objects, from furniture to packaging.
Holders of the Bachillerato, or those who have passed the university entrance exam for people over 25, are admitted after a specific entrance test; holders of a Técnico Superior de Artes Plásticas y Diseño qualification can enter without a test. Like the other higher arts schools in Castile and León, the school holds the Erasmus Charter, which allows student and staff exchanges with European higher education institutions for study or work placements.
