The Escuela Oficial de Idiomas de Albacete is the official language school of the city of Albacete, in Castilla-La Mancha, located at Avenida de España 12. Its teaching follows the regional curriculum set by the Castilla-La Mancha education department, with levels referenced to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The school has departments of German, Spanish, French, English and Italian. The Spanish department teaches Spanish for foreigners and holds placement tests (prueba de nivel) for new students.
Classroom courses run from Basic A1 and A2 (two years) through Intermediate B1 and B2 to Advanced C1 and C2. Each course has 120 to 160 teaching hours, with classes on alternate days (Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday) between 9:00 and 14:00 or 16:00 and 21:00. Students can also enrol as external candidates (alumnado libre) and only sit the end-of-level certificate exams. Distance learning (That's English!) and the La Roda extension are for English only.
New students must pre-register (preinscripción) in one of two admission periods, in May or the extraordinary period in September. The minimum age is 16 by 31 December. Students who neither take a placement test nor present a recognised certificate start at A1.
