The Escuela Superior de Conservación y Restauración de Bienes Culturales de Aragón (ESCYRA) is a public higher education centre of the Government of Aragon, located at Calle Coso Alto 61 in the centre of Huesca.

It awards the official Grado en Enseñanzas Artísticas Superiores de Conservación y Restauración de Bienes Culturales, a degree in the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage with two specialities: Sculpture and Painting. The school states that teaching is based on small groups and work on real artworks from the first year. According to the school, the degree gives access to master's and doctoral studies.

ESCYRA also offers a recognised master's degree (máster homologado) in advanced systems for the conservation and restoration of mural painting, with 60 ECTS credits and 12 places; the next edition is 2027-2028.

The school takes part in Erasmus+ and has exchange agreements with schools in Italy, Portugal, France and Switzerland. Study stays last from 2 to 12 months; traineeship mobility is not offered at present. Admission is by entrance exam, held in June, with a theoretical part and practical exercises in drawing and colour and in manual skill.

Programmes

Grado en Enseñanzas Artísticas Superiores de Conservación y Restauración de Bienes Culturales (official degree), with two specialities:

  • Sculpture: analysis, diagnosis and treatment of sculptural supports
  • Painting: conservation and restoration of traditional and contemporary paintings on different supports

Graduate programmes

Máster: Sistemas avanzados en conservación y restauración de pintura mural, a recognised master's degree (máster homologado) of 60 ECTS credits with 12 places and practical work on real sites. Applications for the current edition are closed; the next edition is 2027-2028.

Admission

Admission requires passing an entrance exam (prueba de acceso), held in June (17 June 2026 for Sculpture, 18 June 2026 for Painting):

  • Theoretical part (40%): two of four subjects, one hour each: Biology, Physics and chemistry, Art history, History of Spain
  • Practical part (60%): two 2-hour exercises, drawing and colour, and manual skill

Applicants bring proof of their qualification and ID. The general exam fee in 2026 was 51 €.
