Language school in Saint-Raphaël, France

France, Langue & Culture runs its courses under the name French Language Holidays. It is a French language school in Saint-Raphaël, on the Côte d'Azur in the south of France, and its director states that it has welcomed students from around the world for over 45 years. Classes are small, with a maximum of five to six students, and cover all levels from beginner to advanced; new students are assessed on arrival and placed in a suitable class. Courses are open to families, children and teenagers aged 6 to 17, university students, teachers and individual adults, and parents can study alongside their children.

Summer courses last one to four weeks and run from mid-June to the end of August. In autumn, winter and spring the school offers one-to-one or two-to-one private tutoring. One teaching hour is 45 minutes. The course fee covers tuition, learning materials and some organised activities, while accommodation and meals are extra. Excursions and sports such as golf, tennis and windsurfing can be booked through the school, which also arranges accommodation at cost with host families, in hotels or in self-catering apartments.

One teaching hour is 45 minutes and groups have at most five to six students.

Language requirements

No prior French is needed: courses accept beginners to advanced learners, and students are assessed on arrival and placed in the appropriate class. The one-week intensive courses are for learners with some basic knowledge of French.

Duration

Summer courses last one to four weeks, with fixed two-, three- and four-week sessions between mid-June and the end of August. One-week intensive classes start any Monday. Outside the summer, private tutoring is available in autumn, winter and spring.

Housing

Accommodation is optional. On request the school arranges it at cost, with no profit added:

  • French host family: single or double room with half-board, or a private flat
  • Family boarding house for students aged 14 to 20, under family supervision
  • Self-catering family apartments, only when at least two people register for at least two weeks
  • Hotels and apartments for 4 to 6 people, most within walking distance of the school
  • A bed and breakfast 300 metres from the school, booked directly by the guest

The school recommends booking early, as the Riviera fills up quickly in summer.
