Franklin University is a private, nonprofit university founded in 1902, with its main campus in downtown Columbus, Ohio (United States). It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and focuses on adult learners and working professionals, with most programmes delivered online. Its Office of International Students and Programs (OISP) supports international students from more than 60 countries, both in the United States and abroad.

Franklin offers associate, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees and certificates, mainly in:

  • Business, accounting and finance
  • Computer science, information technology, cybersecurity and data analytics
  • Healthcare administration and nursing
  • Education and educational leadership
  • Communications, psychology and public administration

International students can take a bachelor's, master's or doctorate fully online from outside the United States. Students who need an F-1 visa can currently only enrol in selected on-campus master's programmes in Columbus (MBA, MBA-STEM and MS in Business Analytics, Computer Science, Health Informatics and Information Technology); F-1 students are not being admitted to undergraduate programmes at present. Master's applicants do not need an essay or GMAT/GRE, and more than 90% of undergraduates transfer credit from previous studies.

Admission Requirements

International applicants apply online and then:

  • Send official transcripts; studies outside the U.S. must be evaluated by an approved credential evaluation agency (course-by-course, with GPA for graduate applicants)
  • Undergraduate: the equivalent of a U.S. high school education; graduate: an accredited bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent
  • Prove English proficiency
  • F-1 students: proof of funds for one year (sponsored) or two years (self-funded) of tuition and living costs, a sponsorship form and a passport copy, to obtain the I-20

F-1 graduate students start in fall or spring and pay a non-refundable US$2,000 tuition deposit.

  • Undergraduate: TOEFL iBT 75, IELTS 5.5, Duolingo 100, PTE Academic 53 or Accuplacer ESL 285 (with subscores)
  • Graduate and doctoral programmes in the U.S.: TOEFL iBT 79, IELTS 6.0, Duolingo 105, PTE Academic 57 or Accuplacer ESL 295

Scores must be less than two years old. Citizens of countries where English is the main language of education are exempt. Students who meet the undergraduate level but not the graduate one can complete an ESL Pathway Program in their first graduate semester.
