Hofstra University is a university with a residential campus about 25 miles (40 km) from Manhattan, New York. It is organised into 13 schools and colleges, has a student-to-faculty ratio of 13:1 and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). Campus life includes more than 200 student clubs and organisations and Division I sports teams.
Undergraduate study covers a wide range of majors; the most popular are in the following areas:
- Business
- Communications
- Health sciences and nursing
- Psychology
- STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics)
- Music, drama and dance
The university also has an Honors College with smaller seminar-style classes and direct-entry dual degree programmes that combine a bachelor's and a master's degree. Graduate and professional programmes include law and a School of Medicine, each with its own deadlines and requirements.
Admission is test optional (SAT or ACT scores are not required). First-year applicants can apply through the Common App or Hofstra's own application, under non-binding Early Action or rolling admission, and are automatically considered for merit scholarships. International students use the same first-year or transfer applications, and the university states that it supports them from application to visa processing.

Direct-entry dual degree programmes include Pre-Medical Scholars/MD (4+4), LEAP (BA/JD), Physician Assistant Studies (BS/MS) and Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences (BA)/Speech-Language Pathology (MA). There is also an Honors College, and internships, research and practical experience are part of every major.
Deadlines
First-year admission for fall 2027:
- Early Action I (non-binding): apply by midnight on 15 November; decision by 15 December
- Early Action II (non-binding): apply by 15 December; decision by 15 January
- Regular Decision: rolling decisions from 1 February
Graduate, law and medical programmes set their own deadlines.
