Holland College is a publicly funded college on Prince Edward Island, in eastern Canada, founded in 1969. Its admissions office is in Charlottetown, and it teaches at five main campuses and centres across the province, including the Prince of Wales Campus in Charlottetown, the Summerside Waterfront Campus, the Atlantic Police Academy and the Marine Training Centre. It is a Designated Learning Institution with ISO 9001:2015 certification, and many of its programmes are nationally accredited.

The college offers more than 60 full-time, career-focused programmes with practicums and internships, plus post-graduate certificates for students who already hold a degree or diploma. Areas include:

  • Applied sciences and health studies
  • Arts and media
  • Business and computer studies
  • Community and educational studies
  • Industrial technology and trades
  • Marine training and police training
  • Culinary arts (The Culinary Institute of Canada)
  • Sport and recreation

Teaching is in English, and an English for Academic Purposes programme is available. Through more than 130 degree pathway agreements, diploma graduates can go on to a university degree in as little as two further years. International students can apply for scholarships, bursaries and awards. Tuition varies by programme. Apartment-style residences are available in Charlottetown; space is limited, so students should apply for residence together with their programme.

Admission Requirements

International applicants use the international application form. Those without a study permit should check the Canadian government (IRCC) information on study permits and timelines before applying; the college's Designated Learning Institution number is O19220082122. Seats are filled as they become available until the programme start date. Mature applicants who do not meet the academic requirements may be considered on the basis of life experience. Recruitment and first-year advisors help from application to course registration.

Language Requirements

Teaching is in English and all applicants must show English proficiency, either through three consecutive years of full-time post-secondary study in English or with a test score such as:

  • IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall, no band below 6
  • TOEFL iBT: 85
  • Duolingo English Test: 120, no section under 115
  • PTE Academic: 60; CAEL: 60 (50 per band)
  • Cambridge B2 First, C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency: 176, no band below 169

The college has an IELTS test centre and its own English Proficiency Test, and offers an English for Academic Purposes programme for students who do not yet meet the requirement.

Financial Aid

International students can apply for a range of scholarships, bursaries and awards. According to the college, more than $700,000 is available in student awards, bursaries and scholarships, funded partly by donors to the Holland College Foundation.

Housing

Holland College has two residence buildings in Charlottetown with furnished apartment-style suites of one to three bedrooms: Glendenning Hall (186 beds) and Cumberland Residence (80 beds). Fees include furniture, appliances, heating, electricity, Wi-Fi, local phone and parking; students bring their own linens, dishes and kitchen utensils. Rooms are in high demand, so students should apply for residence at the same time as their programme. The college also gives information on off-campus housing.
