The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is a public university in Charlottetown, Canada, and the only university in the province of Prince Edward Island. It was established in 1969 from two older institutions, Prince of Wales College (1834) and Saint Dunstan's University (1855). More than 5,500 students from over 92 countries study at UPEI, which has campuses in Charlottetown and St. Peter's Bay as well as a campus in Cairo. The university reports a ratio of 18 full-time students to each full-time faculty member.
UPEI offers certificate, diploma and undergraduate programmes and a growing number of professional and graduate programmes. Examples include:
- Bachelor of Business Administration and an MBA in Global Leadership
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Design Engineering
- Computer Science and Actuarial Science
- Bachelor of Education, including French as a second language
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Atlantic Veterinary College
The campus also has an English Language Centre, an Office of Study Abroad and International Partnerships, and residences. Applications are made online through the UPEI Application Portal; applications for Fall 2027 are open. Deadlines for international applicants to non-competitive undergraduate programmes are set each year, and international student advisors answer questions about study permits.
