The University of Calgary (UCalgary) is a public post-secondary institution in Calgary, Alberta, the fourth-largest city in Canada. It was founded in 1966, with origins in the early 1900s, and describes itself as Canada's Entrepreneurial University. It has more than 38,000 students in 14 faculties, and its campuses include the Main Campus, the Downtown Campus, Foothills and Spyhill.

  • Undergraduate degrees: more than 250 programmes, with combined degrees, minors and embedded certificates
  • Graduate studies: more than 225 credentials across 80 programmes
  • Professional and continuing education: over 1,200 courses and seminars and 70 certificate programmes

Undergraduate admission is competitive. Applicants can choose two programmes, and international students can apply for a study permit with a conditional offer of admission. The university awards $22 million in scholarships, awards and bursaries each year. Students who apply directly from high school, aged 21 or under, are guaranteed a place in residence in their first year if they apply by 1 May; more than 3,000 students from over 75 countries live on campus.

Housing

  • First year: guaranteed residence place for students coming directly from high school, aged 21 or under, who apply by 1 May; most live in the traditional-style Kananaskis and Rundle halls, and a meal plan is mandatory
  • Second year: furnished suite-style apartments or apartments with two to four bedrooms, also for transfer and international students
  • Upper years (under 27): furnished studios and one- to four-bedroom units with full kitchens
  • Off campus: an Off-Campus Housing Guide, and full-time undergraduates get a UPass for Calgary Transit
