Hotel Escuela Santa Brígida is the Gran Canaria training hotel of Hoteles Escuela de Canarias (HECANSA), a public company attached to the Canary Islands Government's department of tourism and employment. The hotel school opened in 1992 in Santa Brígida (Monte Lentiscal), and HECANSA has been authorised to teach official vocational cycles in hospitality and tourism since 2004. Students learn in the working hotel itself, using its restaurant, kitchen, pastry kitchen, rooms, reception and five conference rooms, plus eight classrooms, one of them for cocktails.
All programmes are dual FP. In the intensive dual mode, apprentices spend up to 50% of the cycle (1,000 hours) in a partner company under a paid training contract. HECANSA's FP Grado Superior programmes, available in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, are:
- Gestión Hotelera (hotel and tourist accommodation management)
- Dirección de Cocina (kitchen management)
- Guest Experience y Restauración (food and beverage service management)
All curricula include English, and some also include German. At Grado Medio level HECANSA teaches cookery and bakery and pastry programmes.
The Santa Brígida school has a student residence with full board. HECANSA students have received Erasmus+ grants for placements abroad, and HECANSA runs a job placement agency for tourism and hospitality.
