Huston-Tillotson University (HT) is an independent, church-related, historically Black university (HBCU) in Austin, Texas. With roots dating back to 1875, it describes itself as the first institution of higher education in Austin. Its 23-acre campus lies near downtown in East Austin. HT is a four-year liberal arts institution and is accredited to award associate, bachelor's and master's degrees; it reports a student-to-faculty ratio of 16:1.
Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees are offered in more than 19 areas of study through the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Business and Technology, for example:
- Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Kinesiology
- Business Administration and Computer Science
- Mechanical Engineering
- Communication, English, History, Music and Psychology
At graduate level, HT offers a hybrid MBA with a concentration in Management and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership. The Access Degree Pathway serves adult learners. International students on an F-1 visa apply through the Office of Admissions. On campus, Residence Life offers traditional residence halls and suite-style accommodation.

International applicants (F-1 visa) must have the equivalent of a US high school diploma and submit:
- A non-refundable US$75 application fee
- Official transcripts evaluated by a US credential evaluation service such as WES or The Evaluation Company (document-by-document for secondary school, course-by-course for university records)
- English test scores, if the home country's official language is not English
- Proof of at least US$25,000 in funds, dated within the past six months
A deposit equal to one semester's tuition and fees is required before the I-20 is issued; it is refunded minus a US$200 fee if the student does not enrol.
Applicants whose home country's official language is not English submit one of: TOEFL iBT 65, IELTS 6 or Duolingo 90.
Residence Life offers traditional residence halls and suite-style accommodation, with Resident Assistants and 24/7 on-call support. To apply, students must be admitted and registered for classes, then complete the eRezLife housing application and state hall and roommate preferences; first-year and transfer students pay a housing deposit.
