IED Kunsthal Bilbao is the Bilbao school of the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) network. It is located in the Edificio Papelera on Zorrozaurre, an area of urban regeneration in Bilbao, at Ribera de Deusto 17. Teaching is based on small groups and real projects with working professionals.

At undergraduate level the school offers the official Título de Grado en Enseñanzas Artísticas Superiores de Diseño (240 ECTS), equivalent to an official university bachelor's degree in the European Higher Education Area. Four specialities are taught in Spanish:

  • Fashion Design
  • Graphic Design
  • Product Design
  • Interior Design

Postgraduate options include two official master's degrees, in Product Design and Ecodesign and in Sustainable Fashion and Circularity, plus school-own master's and postgraduate programmes such as Food Design and Strategic Design. Facilities include textile, prototyping and printing workshops, a library and individual work boxes. Admission to the degree requires the Bachillerato or equivalent and the official entrance test for higher arts degrees. Students can apply to a municipal shared-housing programme in Bilbao that combines reduced rent with community projects.

Admission Requirements

Applicants need the Bachillerato or equivalent and must pass the entrance test for higher arts degrees (up to two attempts per speciality each year); IED offers an optional preparation programme. Some places are reserved for direct access with a Técnico qualification in Artes Plásticas y Diseño. The application includes an interview at the school or by video call, an online form with documents and an enrolment fee to reserve the place.

Financial Aid

Through the Fundación Francesco Morelli, IED funds scholarships each year that mainly reward creative talent. Early enrolment (Early Bird) gives a discount on the course fee, and students can finance their studies through partner banks and lenders such as Banco Santander; international students can pay fees from abroad through Flywire.

Housing

Students can apply to Bilbao's municipal housing programme for young volunteers (Programa de Viviendas para Jóvenes Solidarios), which offers shared municipal housing at a reduced rent, advertised at 55 €, in exchange for taking part in social and community projects.
