Institut national des sciences appliquées de Strasbourg
University in Strasbourg, France
INSA Strasbourg (Institut national des sciences appliquées de Strasbourg) is a public higher education institution in Strasbourg, France, combining an engineering school and a school of architecture. Its origins go back to 1875, and it joined the INSA Group in 2003. Its engineering degrees are accredited by the Commission des titres d’ingénieur, and the French Ministry of Culture accredits it to award the INSA Strasbourg architect's diploma. About 2,000 students study on the Esplanade university campus, close to the city centre, and research is carried out mainly in three research units (ICube, Institut Charles Sadron and AMUP).
Engineering specialities include:
- Civil engineering and surveying (topographie)
- Mechanical engineering, mechatronics and plastics engineering
- Electrical engineering
- Energy, thermal and environmental engineering
- Architecture, and a combined architecture and engineering track
Several specialities can also be taken as apprenticeships. Students from institutions with an Erasmus or bilateral agreement can spend an exchange period at INSA Strasbourg, and the school runs double degrees with international partners. Teaching is in French: lecturers expect level B1-B2, and French as a foreign language classes are offered throughout the year. The international office reserves rooms in university residences for exchange students on request, subject to availability.

Engineering studies run over five years, starting with a common first year (Sciences techniques et humanités) followed by a speciality:
- Civil engineering (also as an apprenticeship)
- Surveying (topographie)
- Mechanical engineering
- Mechatronics
- Plastics engineering (plasturgie)
- Electrical engineering
- Energy, thermal and environmental engineering

The architecture programme runs to the fifth year, with a combined Architecture and Engineering track and the HMONP qualification for practising architects.
Graduate programmes
INSA Strasbourg is co-accredited for master's programmes with the Université de Strasbourg:
- M2 track Architecture, structures et projets urbains (ASPU), part of the master's in Urbanisme et aménagement
- Master's in Sciences et génie des matériaux
It also offers a Mastère spécialisé. For the ASPU track, foreign applicants must prove French at TCF B2 or DELF B2 level.
Admission
Admission decisions are taken by the heads of each speciality, based on available places and the applicant's motivation.
- Exchange students: their home institution must have an Erasmus or bilateral agreement with INSA Strasbourg; they apply in the year before the mobility through their home international office, online via Moveon, with a provisional course choice
- Double-degree students: through INSA Strasbourg's international partner schools
- Other foreign applicants are advised to follow the Campus France "Études en France" procedure
