Loughborough University is a university in Loughborough, a market town in the East Midlands of England, about halfway between Leicester and Nottingham and a short train ride from London. It has two campuses: the main Loughborough campus and Loughborough University London, a postgraduate campus at Here East on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Around 18,000 students from more than 130 countries and regions study there. The university states that it is 9th in the Guardian University Guide 2027 and that it has been number one in the world for sports-related subjects in the QS World University Rankings by Subject from 2017 to 2026.
Loughborough offers foundation courses, undergraduate degrees, master's degrees and doctoral research. Its research spans the arts, humanities, business, social sciences, sport, health, science, engineering and mathematics.
International students can find entry requirements by country, pre-sessional programmes for those who need to meet the English language requirement, visa and immigration advice, scholarships, and an International Student Experience Team. Loughborough has 17 halls of residence on or very close to campus, all within a 15-minute walk, with catered and self-catered options for different budgets and accessibility needs. Each hall has a Warden team for pastoral and welfare support, plus laundry, bike storage and internet. Students can also rent privately in the town; the university advertises inspected and approved private housing on its Studentpad website, and an on-campus team helps students find a place to live.
