Lancaster University is a university in Lancaster, in north-west England, organised in colleges: there are eight undergraduate colleges and a Graduate College for postgraduates, and every student belongs to one of them. According to the university, it has 29,000 students from more than 130 countries, a third of whom study for Lancaster degrees at partner locations abroad, including China, Germany, Ghana, Indonesia and Malaysia. The university reports a top-10 UK position in the Complete University Guide 2027, a place in the top 175 of the QS World University Rankings 2027 and a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework 2023.
Lancaster offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses, doctoral programmes and continuing professional development. Entry requirements are set for each course; applicants whose first language is not English may be asked for a recognised English language qualification. Home and international students are automatically considered for the university's major scholarships when they apply.
Most first-year undergraduates live on campus in college accommodation, choosing between en suite rooms in shared flats, flats and houses with shared facilities, and self-contained studios. Continuing students can also live in university-managed halls at Chancellor's Wharf in the city centre or in accredited private housing.
