Loyola University Maryland is a private Jesuit, Catholic university in Baltimore, Maryland (United States), founded in 1852 by the Society of Jesus. Its Evergreen campus covers 81 wooded acres in North Baltimore. The university has about 3,900 undergraduate students from more than 55 countries, a 12:1 student-to-faculty ratio and an average class size of 20.
Teaching is organised in three schools: the Loyola College of Arts and Sciences, the Sellinger School of Business and the School of Education. Undergraduates choose from more than 55 majors, 60 minors and pre-professional programmes in medicine, health and law, and there are more than 25 graduate programmes. Study abroad programmes in more than 25 countries are included in tuition.
International first-year applicants apply through the Common Application, with a US$60 application fee and an English test score (for example IELTS 6.5). The university considers international applicants for need-based financial aid, has a director of international admission and offers International Student Services. Loyola has 17 residence halls, and 80% of students live on campus through senior year.

Students apply to the university as a whole, not to a specific major, except for Nursing.

Admission
Applicants who need a US visa are considered international students. International first-year applicants submit:
- Common Application (first-year) and US$60 application fee
- Letter of recommendation from the high school counselor (or a teacher)
- Official English test score report
- Official secondary school transcript, with certified English translation if not in English, and official exam results for exam-based systems
- International Student Certification of Finances and a bank letter or statement dated within the last three months
SAT/ACT scores are optional. Application plans include binding Early Decision I and II, non-binding Early Action, Regular Decision and spring entry. Documents can be sent to [email protected].
Language requirements
International applicants submit an official English test score at or above one of these minimums:
- TOEFL iBT: 80 (tests taken before 21 January 2026) or 4.5 (tests taken from 21 January 2026)
- IELTS or IELTS Indicator: 6.5

- Duolingo English Test: 115
Fees
Costs for the 2026-27 academic year (undergraduate, full-time, 12-18 credits per term):
- Tuition: US$61,810 per year (US$30,905 per semester)
- Residence halls: US$12,290 per year; apartments: US$13,830 per year
- Evergreen food plan (first-year minimum): US$7,340 per year
Tuition, housing and food together total US$81,440 for 2026-27. Loyola does not charge a separate comprehensive fee, and study abroad is included in tuition.
Scholarships and financial aid
International applicants can be considered for need-based financial aid: they submit the International Student Certification of Finances, a bank statement and the CSS Profile (Loyola code 5370) when they apply. Merit scholarships are renewed for four years with full-time enrolment and a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0, and Loyola aid can be used for its semester and year-long study abroad programmes. Admission, scholarship and financial aid decisions are notified together.
Housing
Loyola has 17 residence halls on its Evergreen campus with furnished double rooms and apartment-style homes, equipped with heating, air conditioning, laundry facilities and recreation areas. 80% of students live on campus through senior year. Laundry is included in the room rate, and there are 12 on-campus dining locations with several meal plans.
