Monmouth University is a private university in West Long Branch, New Jersey, United States, less than one mile from the Atlantic Ocean and about one hour from New York City and Philadelphia. Its campus includes two historic buildings, the Great Hall at Shadow Lawn and the Guggenheim Mansion.

Monmouth offers more than 55 programmes of study, graduate programmes and combined bachelor's and master's options, with a student-to-teacher ratio of 12 to 1. Its schools include:

Students can also join on-campus centres such as the Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music and the Urban Coast Institute, and study abroad. According to the university, students from more than 25 countries enrol each year. International undergraduates apply with a US$60 fee, official transcripts translated into English, a recommendation letter (first-year applicants) and English test scores such as TOEFL iBT 79 or IELTS 6; a test-optional review is available. Applicants are considered automatically for academic excellence scholarships, and must complete a notarised I-20 application and affidavit of financial support. Housing includes traditional residence halls for first-year students, suite-style buildings and apartments for upperclass students.

Admission Requirements

International undergraduate applicants need:

  • A completed application and a US$60 application fee
  • Official original academic transcripts translated into English (SpanTran is the recommended evaluation service)
  • A recommendation letter (first-year applicants only)
  • English proficiency test scores
  • A notarised Application for Form I-20 and Affidavit of Financial Support, with certified evidence of funds for the first year

First-year applicants can choose a traditional or test-optional review.

Language Requirements

Minimum English scores:

  • TOEFL iBT 79 (paper-based 550)
  • IELTS 6
  • Cambridge CAE: B2
  • MELAB 77

Completion of ELS Language Services Level 112 is accepted instead of a test; conditional acceptance is possible for students who complete ELS Level 112.

Financial Aid

International first-year applicants are automatically considered for Monmouth's academic excellence scholarships during admission, with no separate application. International transfer students may be eligible for the same scholarships as domestic transfer students.

Housing

Monmouth offers traditional corridor-style residence halls for first-year students, suite-style buildings and apartment-style living for upperclass students. Information on off-campus housing is also available.
