This institute was developed in 1955 as the Monterey institute of Foreign Studies and it is Middlebury College’s graduate school. Monterey Institute of International Studies offers certificate, short-term, and graduate programs. It also offers a number of language learning options to its students. The courses offered are in fields of great importance to the overall global community, for instance, interpretation and translation, international policy and management, and sustainable development among others. The institute uses a collaborative approach to learning and it gives the students opportunities to gain and utilize practical professional skills in their respective fields. The school produces students who are upcoming leaders with the ability to bridge organizational, cultural and language barriers so as to come up with sustainable solutions that can be applied in different global challenges.
