Mount Holyoke College is a liberal arts college in South Hadley, Massachusetts, in New England. It describes itself as a gender-diverse women's college and accepts applications from female, transgender and non-binary students. The college has a history of more than 180 years and about 2,200 students from 45 US states and over 70 countries; international students make up over 20% of the student body. According to the college, U.S. News & World Report ranks it No. 34 among National Liberal Arts Colleges.

Undergraduates choose from more than 40 departmental and interdepartmental majors across the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities; psychology, biology and English are among the most popular, and data science is the newest. The student/faculty ratio is 9:1 and all classes are taught by faculty. Through the Five College Consortium, students can take more than 6,000 additional courses. At graduate level the college offers co-ed Master of Arts programmes in teacher licensure and leadership.

The McCulloch Center for Global Initiatives supports international students, including advice on immigration regulations. Applying is free, and all applicants are automatically considered for merit aid.

Bachelor's degrees in more than 40 departmental and interdepartmental majors, plus minors, Five College certificates and the Nexus programme, which adds internships or research to a field of study. Areas include:

Admission Requirements

International first-year applicants (students without US citizenship or permanent residency) apply free of charge through the Common Application or the Coalition Application on Scoir and submit:

  • Secondary School Report with official high school transcript
  • Counselor recommendation and two teacher recommendations
  • English proficiency test scores (non-native speakers)
  • Midyear report (Regular Decision applicants)
  • International Financial Declaration if not applying for need-based aid
  • Optional: writing supplement, standardized test scores, art supplement

Documents not in English must be professionally translated. There are three application rounds: Early Decision I and II (binding) and Regular Decision. Transfer students and international applicants over 25 apply through separate routes.

Language Requirements

Non-native English speakers must submit English proficiency results. Accepted tests include Cambridge Academic English, Duolingo English Test, IELTS, Pearson and TOEFL; results may be self-reported by uploading a PDF of the score report to the applicant portal. Scores entered in the Common App or Coalition App do not meet the requirement. Students who enrol must send official results directly from the test agency. Financial Aid

All applicants, including international students, are automatically considered for merit aid. International applicants seeking need-based aid submit the CSS Profile (the ISFAA is not accepted) and parental tax returns or income verification through the applicant portal; documents must be in English, with self-translations accepted alongside the originals. According to the college, the Princeton Review gave it its highest possible financial aid score.
