Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice (Univerzita Pavla Jozefa Šafárika v Košiciach, UPJŠ) is a university in Košice, Slovakia. It was established in 1959 and sees itself as continuing the tradition of the Universitas Cassoviensis, founded in Košice in 1657. In 1997 the original university was divided into two: UPJŠ in Košice and the University of Prešov.

UPJŠ has five faculties and a sports institute:

  • Faculty of Medicine
  • Faculty of Arts
  • Faculty of Law
  • Faculty of Public Administration
  • Faculty of Science
  • Institute of Physical Education and Sport

The university also runs a botanical garden, a university library, student halls of residence and canteens, a centre for lifelong learning and a university counselling centre, which organises a buddy programme in which student volunteers help others settle in and support their mental health. Students with special needs receive dedicated support, and students can spend periods abroad, for example through Erasmus+. Applicants apply online through the university's electronic application (e-prihláška).
