RMIT University is a university of technology, design and enterprise in Melbourne, Australia. It was established in 1887 as the Working Men's College and is a member of the Australian Technology Network. Its courses are taught across 4 academic colleges and 16 academic schools.
RMIT is a dual-sector university: besides undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees it offers vocational courses, which also serve as recognised pathways into undergraduate study. The university lists architecture, art and design, business and management, communication and media studies, and engineering among its main fields, and it also offers online study in partnership with Open Universities Australia.
According to RMIT, more than 3,000 scholarships were awarded to its students in 2023, students completed 24,245 industry placements in 2024, and it was ranked 5th in the world for reducing inequality in the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings 2025. Some scholarship categories are for current international students, and the university publishes guidance for students moving to Melbourne on transport, accommodation and the cost of living.
