SOAS University of London is a specialist public research university focused on the study of Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Founded in 1916, it is a member of the University of London and is located in Bloomsbury, in central London. Its student and academic community represents more than 130 nationalities, and its library specialises in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, SOAS is placed 2nd for Development and 16th for Politics.

SOAS offers undergraduate, postgraduate, online, research and short courses, as well as joint degrees and intercollegiate courses within the University of London. Its main areas include:

SOAS offers scholarships, bursaries and awards, plus information on international loans. Housing includes undergraduate and postgraduate halls of residence with 24-hour security and rooms in shared flats or houses.

Housing

The SOAS Student Accommodation Team helps students find housing in London, 5 to 45 minutes' travel from the Bloomsbury campus. Options include:

  • Undergraduate halls of residence
  • Postgraduate halls, also for mature students
  • Rooms in shared flats or houses
  • Accessible accommodation and options for students with children and partners

Halls have 24-hour security. For 2026/27, applications opened on 20 April 2026 for new students; returning students applied between 13 and 19 April 2026.
