Shelton State Community College (SSCC) is a two-year community college in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in the United States. It belongs to Alabama's state system of public colleges and is one of six HBCU (historically Black) community colleges in the state. It has two campuses in Tuscaloosa, the Martin Campus and the C.A. Fredd Campus, and around 7,000 students, about 3,000 of them full-time.

Transfer subjects range from the behavioural and natural sciences to business, fine arts, humanities, Spanish and engineering. Shelton State is an open-admission institution: anyone with a high school diploma or GED is eligible. International students apply through International Student Services, which publishes application deadlines and orientation dates for each term.

Admission

Shelton State has open admission: anyone with a high school diploma or GED is eligible.

  • First-time freshmen: online application and an official high school or GED transcript
  • Transfer students: official transcripts from all colleges previously attended
  • Accelerated high school students: 11th or 12th grade, minimum 3.0 GPA, ACT/SAT scores or placement testing
  • International students: separate process through International Student Services

Deadlines

International student application deadline for the Spring 2027 term: 14 December 2026 at 12:00 p.m., with orientation on 8 January 2027.
