Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania (SRU) is a four-year public university in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania (United States), and a member of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education. It is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, has more than 8,000 students and a 660-acre campus with a suite-style residential village.

SRU offers more than 150 career-focused undergraduate, master's and doctoral programmes in five colleges:

  • College of Education
  • College of Engineering and Science
  • College of Health Professions
  • College of Liberal Arts
  • Haverlack College of Business

International students should note that SRU cannot issue the I-20 or DS-2019 visa documents for some programmes, including nursing, aviation, construction management, electrical and computer engineering and commercial music. The International Admissions office handles first-year, transfer, second-degree and exchange applicants, and there is an international orientation and international student services. All new international undergraduates receive an award of about US$3,500 off the out-of-state tuition rate.

Admission Requirements

  • Online application and non-refundable US$30 fee
  • Official secondary school records, certificates and exam results, translated into English (transfer students also send all post-secondary records)
  • Official English test score for non-native speakers
  • Copy of the passport photo page
  • Proof of funds for one academic year (financial affidavit and bank documents), needed for the I-20

Anyone who has enrolled at a post-secondary institution applies as a transfer student. Advanced standing may be given for IB or A-level results. Documents are sent by email to International Admissions.

Language Requirements

Non-native speakers of English must submit one of these minimum scores:

  • TOEFL iBT 62 (4.0 on the new scale)
  • IELTS 6.0 overall
  • Duolingo English Test 95
  • ELS level 112 or STEP Eiken Grade 2A

Transfer students with a college writing course passed at grade C or better may be exempt.

Fees

Estimated full-year cost of attendance for international undergraduates, used for the I-20 financial verification:

  • Bachelor's degree, 2026-27: US$27,765
  • Bachelor's degree, 2027-28: US$26,934
  • Second bachelor's degree (post-baccalaureate), 2026-27: US$29,265

New international undergraduates also receive an award of about US$3,500 deducted from the out-of-state tuition rate (see financial aid).

Financial Aid

  • All new international undergraduates: non-need-based award of about US$3,500 deducted from the out-of-state tuition rate
  • Provost Scholarship for Global Diversity and Academic Achievement: US$1,500, awarded on admission with no extra application; renewable with a 3.0 GPA
  • Presidential Award for Academic Excellence: US$500 after the first year or semester, for a GPA of 3.5 or higher

International students are not eligible for US federal (Title IV) aid.

Housing

SRU has eight residence halls with two-, four- and six-person suites with private bedrooms and bathrooms, and the furnished ROCK Apartments for nearly 200 upper-class students, each with their own bedroom, a kitchen and a living area. Living Learning Communities group students with similar interests, and halls have high-speed internet and laundry. New students who have paid the US$200 enrolment deposit receive housing instructions for spring or fall 2027.
