The State University of New York at New Paltz (SUNY New Paltz) is a university in New Paltz, New York, and part of the State University of New York system. Teaching is organised into five units:

  • College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
  • School of Business
  • School of Education
  • School of Fine and Performing Arts
  • School of Science and Engineering

Besides bachelor's degrees, New Paltz offers more than 50 graduate programmes in business, education, computer science, engineering, fine arts, music therapy and the liberal arts. Accelerated pathway programmes let qualified undergraduates start master's coursework during their senior year, and business students can complete a bachelor's degree and an MBA in five years. Programmes in art education, art history, studio art, music and theatre arts are nationally accredited.

More than 500 international students from over 70 countries study at New Paltz. The Haggerty English Language Program offers intensive English and a pathway level that leads conditionally admitted students to full-time degree study. The university also runs exchange programmes and dual diploma programmes with partners such as PUC-Rio (business) and Turkish universities. The campus has 14 residence halls.

Graduate programmes

More than 50 graduate programmes for holders of a four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent, in business, education, computer science, engineering, fine arts, music therapy and the liberal arts. Examples include the MBA, MS in Business Analytics, MA in Strategic Communication, MSEd in Literacy Education and an Advanced Certificate in Trauma and Disaster Mental Health; some are available fully online. Through accelerated pathway programmes, qualified undergraduates begin graduate study in their senior year at undergraduate tuition rates.

Admission

International undergraduate applicants need to have completed secondary school and submit certified secondary school records in the original language with an English translation, plus certified external examination results where applicable; an SAT score is required only from those who attended a US high school. Graduate applicants need a first university degree and an official transcript with English translation.

Language requirements

Undergraduate applicants show English proficiency with TOEFL iBT 80, IELTS 6.5 or other demonstrated proficiency; the graduate requirement listed is TOEFL 550 (paper-based). Students who do not yet meet the requirement can be conditionally admitted through the Haggerty English Language Program, whose pathway level leads directly to full-time degree study.

Housing

The campus has 14 coed residence halls with corridor-style, suite-style and special-interest housing, grouped into complexes such as Parker (corridor style), Peregrine (suite style) and South (mixed). Every hall has a kitchen, laundry room, computer terminals, a meeting lounge and a study lounge.
