Taller de Músics – Escola Superior d'Estudis Musicals (ESEM) is the higher music school of Taller de Músics in Barcelona, located in the Can Fabra cultural centre (Calle Segre 24-32). As a private centre, it teaches the Grado en Enseñanzas Artísticas Superiores de Música, which the school describes as an official qualification within the European Higher Education Area, equivalent to a university bachelor's degree. The centre is accredited by AQU Catalunya. Its focus is jazz, modern-popular music and flamenco.

Admission is by an entrance test for applicants with the Bachillerato, a higher vocational diploma, a university degree, a recognised foreign equivalent or the over-25 university entrance exam. Students who began higher music studies outside Spain also take the test and can then request credit recognition. The school runs preparatory courses (COS) for the entrance test and allows tuition to be paid in instalments.

Programmes

Grado en Enseñanzas Artísticas Superiores de Música, with these specialities:

  • Performance: Jazz and Modern-Popular Music, Voice-Songwriting (accordion, electric bass, drums, clarinet, double bass, flute, electric guitar, percussion, piano, saxophone, keyboards, trombone, trumpet, voice, violin, cello)
  • Performance: Flamenco (flamenco singing, flamenco guitar)
  • Composition
  • Music Education (Pedagogía Musical), with any instrument taught at the centre

A first-year group in each speciality opens only with at least three enrolled students.

Graduate programmes

Máster en Enseñanzas Artísticas en Creación de Teatro Musical, run jointly with EÒLIA Centre Superior d'Art Dramàtic. It is an official 60 ECTS master's, approved by the Spanish Ministry of Education, taught in person over one academic year (6 October 2026 to 27 May 2027) in Catalan and Spanish, with 8 places (up to 10). Applicants need a university degree or equivalent higher arts qualification; selection is by CV review, a personal interview and, where needed, a specific test.

Admission

Admission to the Grado is by an entrance test. Applicants must hold one of the following:

  • Bachillerato (LOGSE, LOE or BUP+COU)
  • Higher vocational diploma (CFGS)
  • Any university degree
  • A foreign qualification recognised as equivalent to the Spanish Bachillerato
  • A pass in the university entrance exam for people over 25

Part A of the test is common to all specialities and eliminatory; Part B is specific to each speciality and alone determines the ranking. Applicants may sit the test for up to two specialities. Students who started higher music studies outside Spain take the regular test and may then request recognition of credits.

Language requirements

The master's in Musical Theatre Creation is taught mainly in Catalan and also in Spanish. Speaking Catalan is not required, but enough understanding to follow classes is recommended. English is not required either, although part of the reading material is in English.

Fees

Entrance test fees, 2026-27 academic year (September call):

  • Taller de Músics or COS students: €120 for one speciality, €200 for two
  • Other applicants: €150 for one speciality, €250 for two

Test fees are not refunded except in documented cases of force majeure. Tuition can be paid in instalments; the site gives no tuition amount.
