The Giles School

The Giles School is a co-educational, secular and independent day school in Toronto, Ontario, founded in 1989. It teaches children from Pre-K to Grade 8 and describes itself as a French immersion school. It draws students from Toronto and surrounding areas such as Markham, Richmond Hill, Ajax and Port Credit.

French is the main language of instruction from Pre-K, with play-based learning in the early years. From Grade 4 to Grade 8 the curriculum is taught in both English and French with a STEAM-focused approach, and students can sit the DELF Junior exam from Grade 4. The school also teaches Mandarin and Spanish, so that pupils learn four main languages: English, French, Mandarin and Spanish. Classes have an average of 10 to 16 students, and according to the school its families come from over 20 countries and speak 22 languages. A preschool programme is also offered.

Admission is non-selective: the school does not test children for entry, no previous knowledge of French is required, and places are given on a first-come, first-served basis throughout the year when there is room in the class. Families can book a private tour before applying.

The Giles School is non-selective: there is no entry test, and no previous knowledge of French is required. Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and are guaranteed if there is room in the class when a complete application is received. Spaces are reserved for current students until 1 February.

  • Complete both forms
  • Submit them through the school's online form

Students can also join partway through the school year if places are available.
