The Learn Academy (TLA) is a private pre-university college in Barcelona for students aged 16 to 19 in their last two years of school. It teaches the British International A Level curriculum in English and is an official Pearson Edexcel testing centre, so students sit their exams at the school. The college grew out of a tutoring centre in Barcelona, was founded by Hannah Grech and states that about 60 students are enrolled; the average class has eight students per teacher.
The two-year Pearson Edexcel International A Level (IAL) programme lets students choose three or four subjects from more than 15, including:
- Mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics
- Information technology
- English language and literature, Spanish and history
- Business, economics and psychology
- Art and design (photography, fine art, graphic communication)
- Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
Exams take place in May and June, with resit opportunities in October and January. Fees include university application support and reference letters, and the weekly programme includes extracurricular activities such as cooking, arts, sport and community service. Admission involves a meeting with the family and the director, school reports, possible subject tests and proof of a high level of English.
