The Royal Agricultural University (RAU) is a specialist university in Cirencester, Gloucestershire (United Kingdom), focused on agriculture and the land-based sector. Its history goes back 180 years. The university states that it has more than 1,100 students in agriculture, business, environment, equine science, farm management, food, real estate and rural land management, with students from over 40 countries on the Cirencester campus.

Language Requirements

The preferred test is IELTS Academic, or IELTS Academic (UKVI) for students who need a visa; other tests such as PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, LanguageCert, Duolingo and Cambridge certificates are also accepted. IELTS Academic levels:

  • Undergraduate: 6.0 overall with no element below 5.5
  • Postgraduate taught: 6.5 overall with no element below 5.5
  • Postgraduate research: 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in Writing and 5.5 in other elements
  • Foundation degrees (visa students from non-majority English-speaking countries): UKVI IELTS Academic 6.0 overall, no less than 5.5 in each component

Financial Aid

Scholarships listed for the 2026-2027 academic year require an offer of a place at the RAU. Examples for international students:

  • Vice-Chancellor's Global Impact Scholarship: up to £1,500 of tuition fees for full-time taught MSc international offer holders
  • RAU Africa Agricultural Leadership Award: up to £4,500 for African MSc offer holders
  • RAU Sports Scholarships: at least £1,000 per year for students competing at national or international level
  • International Referral Programme: £500 to the new international student

RAC/RAU alumni get a 20% reduction in postgraduate tuition fees.
