The University of Buckingham is a private university in the town of Buckingham (United Kingdom), with a second campus in Crewe; in 2026 it celebrates its 50th anniversary. It is known for its two-year honours degrees, taught through lectures and small-group tutorials, and students can also complete an honours and a master's degree in three years. According to the university, it welcomes students of over 100 nationalities.

Courses range from foundation programmes to undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees, with September and January starts. Study areas include:

Undergraduate degrees are mostly two-year honours degrees (BSc, BA, LLB), many also offered with an integrated foundation year. Study areas:

A nine-month Foundation Pathway prepares international students for undergraduate study.

Postgraduate study includes taught master's degrees (MSc, MA, MBA, LLM), teacher training (PGCE) and a wide range of postgraduate medical programmes (MMed, MSurg and clinical specialties such as cardiology or dermatology). Fields include:

  • Accounting, finance and strategic leadership
  • Applied data science and cyber security and intelligence
  • International and commercial law; security and diplomacy
  • History, history of art and decorative arts
  • Military history and modern war studies (London-based seminars)

Research degrees include MA (Res), PhD, DProf and EdD.

Admission Requirements

Typical requirements for applicants from Spain:

  • Undergraduate: Bachillerato with an overall average of 6.4, depending on the programme (or IB 29-34)
  • Postgraduate: licenciado with a minimum grade of 7 (Notable), or a bachelor's degree equivalent to a British 2:2 or above
  • Foundation: 12 years of schooling with a good school-leaving qualification

Each application is considered individually, including work experience, and applicants may be invited to interview. Courses start in September or January. The university has representatives in Spain (Granada and Madrid).

Language Requirements

Minimum English requirements for undergraduate entry:

  • IELTS 6.5 average with 6.0 or above in each component
  • TOEFL iBT 79 (Listening 12, Reading 13, Speaking 18, Writing 21)
  • PTE Academic 59-65 (minimum 59 in each component, test centre only)
  • Cambridge CPE 176-184 (minimum 175 in each component)

Medicine (MB ChB) requires IELTS 7.0 with at least 6.5 in every component; foundation programmes have their own requirements. TOEFL and IELTS results are valid for two years.

Financial Aid

Scholarships and bursaries are awarded on location, merit or financial need and reduce tuition fees. Awards open to international students include:

  • International Undergraduate High Achiever Scholarship: £2,500 for students with AAB at A level or equivalent
  • Postgraduate First-Class Scholarship: 33% tuition reduction for new students with a first-class bachelor's degree
  • Al-Sabah scholarships for Arabic students: £40,000 (two-year undergraduate degree) or £20,000 (master's)

Applicants must first hold an offer of a place.

Housing

All full-time students can apply for university accommodation, and first-year students are guaranteed an on-campus room on one of the four residential campuses if they apply by the deadline: 11 September 2026 for September 2026 entry and 18 December 2026 for January 2027 entry. Rooms range from standard and en-suite rooms to houses and flats, with utilities included; Mount Pleasant offers catered en-suite rooms. Visa applicants can use the university's address before receiving a room offer.
