Tierras Mayas Spanish Language School

Tierras Mayas Spanish Language School has taught Spanish in San Cristóbal de las Casas, in the Mexican state of Chiapas, since 2006. The school is at Hermanos Domínguez 25-A, in the Barrio de San Antonio near the city centre. All classes are taught by native Spanish-speaking teachers, and students come from many countries.

Students choose one-to-one or group lessons at all levels. The immersion courses combine a solid grammar base with communication skills in a cultural context, and classes are held entirely in Spanish, with English used only to clarify doubts. For intermediate and advanced students there is a Spanish + History of Chiapas and Mexico course: 25 hours a week of personalised teaching, including two hours a day on a history topic chosen by the student.

Classrooms overlook the city or the garden, and a student lounge offers free coffee, water and Wi-Fi. New students take a placement test on arrival. The school asks for no deposit or registration fee; fees are paid on the first day of classes, and students are asked to confirm their arrival by email a week in advance.
