Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar

The Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar (UASB) is the academic body of the Andean Community (Comunidad Andina, CAN). Its Bolivian headquarters, the Sede Central, is in Sucre, with academic seats in La Paz and Santa Cruz and offices in Colombia and Peru. The university focuses on postgraduate education and research and publishes scientific journals.

It awards these qualifications:

• Doctorate (doctorado), its highest degree, centred on a research thesis and open to students from several countries
• Master's degree (magíster), combining postgraduate training, research and specialisation
• Higher specialisation (especialización superior), a postgraduate specialist title in a professional field
• Diploma superior, a flexible professional programme that is not a postgraduate qualification
• Open refresher and training courses

Programmes cover law, health, education and social sciences, economics, communication, environment and sustainable development, information technology, and culture and tourism; there is also a distance education area. Master's applicants need a university degree or a professional title, and doctoral applicants a master's degree or equivalent. The degrees office advises graduates on registering UASB postgraduate titles and on the apostille.
