Alcalingua is the centre of the Universidad de Alcalá for language teaching and language-teacher training. It was created to help foreign students learn Spanish and is housed in the historic centre of Alcalá de Henares, in the former Colegio de San Patricio (or de los Irlandeses), a university college founded in the mid-17th century. Teaching covers the language as well as the culture and society of the countries where it is spoken.

Spanish courses run by term; the 2027 winter term runs from 7 January to 12 March and the spring term from 15 March to 31 May. Alcalingua also teaches German, Chinese, Korean, French, English, Italian, Japanese and Turkish. It has ten classrooms with interactive whiteboards, and its student office advises on accommodation, visas, banking and consular matters. Housing options include host families, shared flats, the CRUSA Campus Village and the Residencia Lope de Vega. Students can also use university facilities such as libraries and sports centres. Alcalingua holds the Spanish tourism quality commitment seal (Compromiso de Calidad Turística).
