The Universidad de Alcalá (UAH) is a public university based in Alcalá de Henares, about 40 kilometres from the centre of Madrid, with four campuses: two in Alcalá de Henares, one in Guadalajara and one in Torrejón de Ardoz. With more than 525 years of history, it is the oldest university in the Madrid region, and its historic buildings were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998. The university has 27,846 enrolled students, of whom 14.18% are international.

According to the university, its strengths include Spanish language teaching, space technology, environmental sciences, medicine and health sciences. It is a member of the EUGLOH European university alliance. Students can live in several residences linked to the university, including the Lope de Vega residence in the town centre, the Campus Village apartments and the Giner de los Ríos residence on the science campus, and the Príncipe Felipe residence in Guadalajara.

- 58 master's degrees across all branches of knowledge, including some that qualify for regulated professions such as lawyer or teacher
- About 30 doctoral programmes at the Doctoral School (EDUAH)
- Lifelong-learning master's programmes (usually 60 ECTS credits, no access to doctorate)
- Specialisation diplomas (under 60 ECTS), expert diplomas (under 30 ECTS) and certificates (under 15 ECTS)
Housing
- Residencia Universitaria Lope de Vega: in the town centre, five minutes on foot from the city-campus faculties; 404 rooms, full board included
- Ciudad Residencial Universitaria (Campus Village): more than 140 furnished apartments with single and double rooms and equipped kitchens, on the science and technology campus
- Residencia Giner de los Ríos: 327 places in single and double studios on the science and technology campus, under an agreement with the university
- Residencia Príncipe Felipe: 98 places in the centre of Guadalajara
The Residencia San Ildefonso in the historic university building mainly hosts conference guests, course participants and visiting lecturers.
