Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio Mare Nostrum

UAX Mare Nostrum (Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio Mare Nostrum) is a private university in Málaga, with a new campus of 27,000 m² that the university describes as sustainable and committed to renewable energy. It focuses on health, sport, business, technology and design. Health students train with clinical simulation in facilities such as a Virtual Simulation Hospital and a dental clinic; for the 2026-27 academic year the university plans a dental clinic of more than 2,500 m² with over 40 dental chairs.

The university offers 13 officially recognised on-campus bachelor's degrees in Málaga, starting in September. They include dentistry, nursing, physiotherapy, biomedicine, pharmacy, nutrition, sport sciences (CAFYD), business analytics, computing and artificial intelligence and video game design, plus double degrees combining sport sciences, physiotherapy, nutrition and pharmacy. Postgraduate programmes in Málaga include official master's degrees in sports physiotherapy, healthcare management, cybersecurity, big data for business, adult emergency nursing and culture, sport and media management, as well as the university's own master's programmes in oral surgery and orthodontics.

Students can book places in partner university residences in Málaga. Together with Málaga City Council, the university runs the Becas Ciudad de Málaga scholarships, which offer free tuition to academically outstanding students registered as residents in Málaga.

Admission

Admission, as described for the Dentistry degree in Málaga, starts with a conversation with the admissions advisers. Applicants then submit an application and upload the required documents to the university's portal. The process includes a psycho-pedagogical aptitude assessment, a level test in a foreign language chosen by the applicant, a competency test and a short video answering two questions, and, where needed, a personal interview. The university states that these tests are for guidance and do not on their own exclude applicants.

Language requirements

The Dentistry degree in Málaga is taught in Spanish. As part of admission, applicants take a level test in a foreign language of their choice.

Duration

Bachelor's degrees in Málaga start in September. Most last 4 years (for example Nursing, Physiotherapy, Biomedicine, Nutrition, CAFYD, Business Analytics and Computing and AI); Dentistry and Pharmacy last 5 years (Dentistry: 300 ECTS credits). The double degrees in CAFYD and Physiotherapy and in CAFYD and Nutrition last 5 years, and the double degree in Pharmacy and Nutrition lasts 6 years.

Scholarships and financial aid

Students in Málaga can apply for official grants from the Spanish Ministry of Education and the Junta de Andalucía. The Becas Ciudad de Málaga, run with Málaga City Council, offer free tuition in bachelor's and postgraduate programmes to academically outstanding students registered as residents in Málaga; for 2026 the ordinary call closed on 30 June 2026 and the extraordinary call on 20 July 2026. UAX also offers study grants (for example for early enrolment or elite athletes) and financing plans.
