The Università di Corsica Pasquale Paoli (University of Corsica Pasquale Paoli) is the only university on the island of Corsica and one of France's 71 universities. It was founded in 1765 by Pasquale Paoli and reopened in 1981. Its two campuses are in Corte, the historic capital of Corsica, in the mountains about 40 minutes from the sea; research centres are also located in Ajaccio, Bastia and Cargèse. The university has about 5,000 students and offers some 130 qualifications from first-year undergraduate to doctoral level, in four main areas: arts, literature and languages; law, economics and management; humanities and social sciences; and science, technology, health and sport.

According to the university, it hosts 310 international students from 60 nationalities, who come through Erasmus+ or CREPUQ exchanges, as free movers or by enrolling directly. It offers a University Diploma in French as a Foreign Language, has exchange links with more than 100 institutions and founded RETI, a network of 28 island universities. International students are supported by the International Relations Service and by student associations, including ESN. The Corte campuses have a Fab Lab and a 4,500 m² library.

Programmes

About 130 qualifications, from the BUT and bachelor's degrees to master's and doctoral studies, in four main areas:

  • Arts, literature and languages
  • Law, economics and management
  • Humanities and social sciences
  • Science, technology, health and sport

Career-oriented fields include digital technology, audiovisual media and communication, environmental engineering and renewable energy, sustainable tourism and structural engineering. Paoli Tech trains engineers in energy management, sustainable construction and renewable energy, and is accredited by the CTI. More than thirty courses can be taken as work-study (block release). International students can take the University Diploma in French as a Foreign Language, which can lead to later enrolment in a degree. The doctoral school (ED 377) covers environment and society.
