The University of Duisburg-Essen (Universität Duisburg-Essen, UDE) is a university in the Ruhr region of Germany with two campuses, in Duisburg and in Essen. Together with two other universities it forms the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr), and its research is organised around four profile focal points.
UDE offers bachelor's and master's degrees and State Examination programmes such as Medicine, taught at the Uniklinikum Essen. Courses are taught in German, in English or bilingually, and, depending on the programme, studies start in the winter or the summer term. Its main fields of study are:
- Educational and social sciences
- Engineering sciences, including international ISE programmes
- Teacher training
- Mathematics and computer science
- Medicine and medical sciences
- Natural sciences
- Languages, cultural studies and humanities
- Economics and business administration
Programmes with restricted admission require an application; for programmes without restrictions students can enrol directly within the set period. Citizens of non-EU/EEA countries with a school certificate obtained outside the EU/EEA apply through International Admissions. Each semester students pay a social and student union contribution that includes a public transport ticket (VRR Semester Ticket and NRW Ticket), and all students must have health insurance.
