University in Belmopan, Belize
The University of Belize (UB) is Belize's national university, described on its website as a national, autonomous and multi-location institution for higher education, research and service for national development. Its central campus is on Hummingbird Avenue in Belmopan, and it also has campuses in Belize City, Central Farm and Punta Gorda. In 2026 the university is marking 25 years.
UB offers more than 57 programmes, from associate and bachelor's degrees to flexible master's degrees for working professionals. Featured areas of study include:

The University of Belize School of Medicine (UBSoM) is the first medical school of its kind in Belize. It teaches in English, as Belize is the only Central American country where English is the official language, and clinical training takes place in Belize. Applicants to medicine need a qualifying background, such as UB's associate degree in Pre-Medical Sciences or a bachelor's degree in biology or chemistry, and QESE or MCAT scores. The university also offers athletic scholarships.
